It was a long day today. My senior dog, Peanut, is having some health issues and I spent the morning with him and the vet. I got home a little bit later than usual from work, so I guess you could say I am kind of cheating on the addition today. Well not really, because coconut oil is a human food and I am adding it to my dog’s food…so technically it counts. Right?
I always add coconut oil to my dog’s kibble because it has so many great benefits to them. It has antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral properties. It is good for their skin, digestive system, immune system, endocrine/metabolic system, musculoskeletal system, brain, eyes, ears & mouth. For tips on which Coconut Oil would be the best, see my other blog about 4 human foods you can add to your dog’s food.
I give about 1 teaspoon to each of my dogs, who range in size from about 55 pounds to 80 pounds. I give the little guy, Roscoe about 1/4 of a teaspoon.
Adding human food to your dog’s food doesn’t have to be a big production. It can be as simple as adding a spoonful of coconut oil or throwing in some left-overs. We all have busy lives. Just make sure that whatever you are adding that you have researched before adding it. We want to make them healthier, not harm them.
Have you been trying different things in your dog’s food? Have you found foods that they really like or really dislike? Let me know how it’s going.
