Since it’s Monday and I am tired, I added peanut butter to my dog’s food today. Most dogs love, love, love peanut butter, so it was kind of a no brainer. One big thing to watch when feeding peanut butter to your dogs is that it does NOT have Xylitol in it. Xylitol is an artificial sweetener that can kill your dog. Always check the label for this killer. I prefer the organic kind of peanut butter because I don’t have to worry about it, but I still check the label.
I wouldn’t normally put peanut butter in the dog’s food. I would usually put it in a toy for the dogs to spend time getting it out. I gave each of the big guys about 1 tablespoon of peanut butter and the little guy got about 1 teaspoon.
Peanut butter is a great source of protein, vitamin B, niacin, and vitamin E. It also has heart healthy fats in it. Now some may say that peanut butter is not the best food to feed your dog, especially if you feed too much to your dog. I read a great article by Dogs Naturally Magazine that talks about the dangers that peanut butter can have. You can read it here. I think that if you choose to feed your dog peanut butter occasionally, you should be ok. I would not recommend feeding it to them every day.
